Oxfam Trailwalker - We did it again!

The PDL Pumas team have once again done the Oxfam Trailwalker in Taupo.

We trained as a team of 4, we started as team of 4, we walked as a team of 4 and we finished as a team of 4; We started in Taupo at 8am on Saturday morning and we walked, and we walked, and we walked; We walked up hills, we walked down hills, we walked around hills; We walked through bush, we walked over farmland, we walked through forests and we walked on roads; We walked all day long and we kept on walking right through the night (with no sleep) into the next day; We walked in rain showers, we walked in the wind (Sou'wester 30kts) we walked in the bitter cold (5º)

At long last on Sunday morning we had finally walked 100km and crossed the finish line in Taupo with a time of 24 Hours 23 Minutes, an improvement of 2 Hours 32 minutes on last years time of 26 Hours 55 minutes. Our team placing was Team 75 out of 250 teams that started (and only 192 teams completed the event)

Our support crew were awesome in getting us through the event.
They had hot food, hot drinks, including freshly baked hot scones for us at midnight!
And thanks to all those who send us text messages of encouragement.

And it is still not to late to support us.

Oxfam Trailwalker - PDL Pumas update

Only 2 days to go!

The Oxfam Trailwalker starts in Taupo this Saturday morning at 8am.
The PDL Pumas team of myself & 3 girls and as a team we all going to try and each walk 100km in just under 24 hours.

Training
Since January each of us has have walked around 600km in training. We have walked from up & over numerous Auckland volcanic cones, we have walked from one side of Auckland to the other, from the Waitemata to the Manukau....and back again, all around Waiheke Island, and in Taupo we have practiced on actual Trailwalker course covering the sections we will complete at night.

Support
Got nothing to do this weekend and want to help make a difference - we could do another person to help in our support crew; And you can send us text messages of support & encouragement especially on Saturday night (anytime, including 2am!)
And you should be able to follow our progress online over the weekend at http://www.oxfamtrailwalker.org.nz/

Sponsorship
Thanks to our generous supporters, we have raised a total of $4,280 towards Oxfam work with some of the most disadvantaged South Pacific people in Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Fiji & Samoa. A lack of basic services such as health care, safe water, schools, electricity and telephones remains a serious problem for many communities in the Pacific. By raising money for Oxfam New Zealand we will be making a tremendous difference to people’s lives throughout the South Pacific.

And it is still not to late to support us.
